Safe, private bedtime stories — in plain words

Storywillow accounts belong to adults. A parent or carer creates the stories and decides what happens to them; children don’t have accounts of their own, and there are no chats or comments in the app.

You create the characters and call them anything you like — your child’s name, a nickname, or a hero you invent together. Storywillow never needs your child’s real name to make a good story, and many families use a nickname, especially for stories they plan to share.

1. You choose the characters, a theme or lesson, a style and a length.
2. OpenAI writes the story from what you entered. For a picture book, it also draws an illustration for every page.
3. Every finished story goes through an automated safety check before you see it. If it doesn’t pass, it is never shown, and the stories it used are returned to your account.
4. If you tap play, xAI reads the story aloud for the Bedtime Narrator.

The app asks your permission before anything you enter is sent to these services, and you can withdraw it in Settings at any time:

• OpenAI — receives the characters, names and details you enter, and the lesson, style and length, to write, safety-check and illustrate the story. Under OpenAI’s API terms this isn’t used to train its models, and it’s kept for up to 30 days to detect abuse, then deleted.
• xAI — receives a story’s text, only when you ask for it to be read aloud.

We send only what’s needed to make the story. We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and there are no ads in Storywillow.

Every story starts private, in your library. If you choose to share, you have three options:

• a link to one story, for grandparents or friends;
• the gallery, where other families can discover it;
• a collection — several stories behind one link, for a class or family.

A shared page shows the story itself, including whatever names you used in it — never the child profile behind it, such as age or interests. You can make a story private again, and unshare or delete a collection, at any time from the app.

Every shared story and collection has a report button, and our takedown form needs no account. When we take something down, it disappears from its link, the gallery and search at once.

Delete a story and it’s gone from your library straight away; you can restore it from Deleted Stories for 30 days, after which it’s permanently erased. You can also delete your whole account, and everything tied to it, from the app’s Settings.

No advertising or tracking cookies, and so no cookie banner. We count visits with privacy-friendly analytics that store nothing on your device and are never linked to your Storywillow account.
